Got Bruises? BBL HEROic Is Here For You

You've heard us talk about how much we love Broadband Light Therapy (BBL). This advanced treatment targets a range of skin concerns including pigmentation, uneven tone, and fine lines. It's just an overall powerful skin refresher.

But there's an additional, powerful use: Treating bruises.

This "bonus" treatment works because the same properties that reduce brown spots and vessels reduce the appearance of bruises. BBL works by targeting melanin and hemoglobin within the layers of the dermis. The short pulses of light heat the upper layers of skin in a way that encourages collagen regrowth.

It works really well with bruises because BBL targets hemoglobin -- the primary component in bruises. The appearance of the bruise will be improved significantly even the next day.

This treatment takes less than 5 minutes, and is extremely effective. The quick pulse will be bright and can feel warm, but the rapid results are worth the momentary discomfort. Treating a bruise with BBL takes the recovery process to its last step - the yellow and green of healing. All purple, brown, and blue coloration is dissolved.

The only limitation for this treatment is the same as any other BBL treatment: your Fitzpatrick Skin Type. This range considers the amount of melanin in your skin and your sensitivity to UV rays. Our primary concern is always your safety and best results.

Treating a bruise is best within the first 24-48 hours that it appears. Time is of the essence!

While we hope you don't need this treatment, know that we have it and are standing by for you! Call us to book if needed - this is not available to book online.

BBL in Action

We recently had an unexpected opportunity to use this mini-treatment on Ashley from our Admin Team. Following a medial cheek filler treatment, she developed a pronounced bruise under the eye. She immediately knew what to do: come in for a mini-treatment of BBL for bruising!

In this photo progression you can clearly see the outline of the treatment area that was covered by the handpiece. The dark bruise dissolved overnight leaving nearly-healed skin. Treating bruises is very delicate business. We use an abundance of caution not to overlap the pulses which can leave a small outline as seen below. However, removing the bulk of the bruise makes such a difference to the recovery process.
